I have studied Sartre slightly and i am almost done with Nausea... and out of all the philosophers i have looked at so far Sartre has appealed to me the most. Anyways I am curious of the French perspective of him and how much(if at all) the French actually take his philosophy to heart.
Oh and i am American so if you wouldn't mind speaking American... err.. English... that would be great.
Thanks,

Hello Forsaken-Luck.
Welcome in our forum.
You'd like to know the french perspectives on JP Sartre?
I think none of us is able to speak about him. In fact, we read and study JPS at school, when we are 10 or 12. So long time ago!! PS : The nausea is "La nausée" in french
For my part, I'm 34, I only read Stephen King....There'is no real philosophie inside!!
LOL

Welcome Forsaken-Luck
What's up Bro'?
We can speak about French food, how cut up an American bull frog and prepare the thighs in some butter from Normandy
For philosophy, we closed all books, now we read "gogo magazine" with cool pics of our new president
Have a great game

If anything you should be praising the American bull frog for liberating Normandy... unless cooking it is a form of appraisal...

Sacrilege !!!! Butter from Normandy is the best (like camembert!) !!!!
The thighs of bull frogs in the butter, with a good white wine, It's D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S
Stop tormenting me! I just missed dinner and Frog legs / French restaurants are impossible to find in America... On top of that American laws restrict my human right to drink white wine.
Is Frédéric Dard a modern French philosopher?
despe your English was fine for the internet until you said that your English was not that great... lol

oooOOOoo... Jean-Paul .... i think he's a very good writer... i've loved "huis clos" or "les mots" or "l'enfance d'un chef" but he's philosophy is not so great.
He doesn't really believe in Psychology and today we can't behave as if Psychology would not exist. And about the existentialism, it's a kind of "toute-puissance" (overpower ? ) of our reason and Descartes had already thought it and we can't think such a thing since Spinoza and Freud.
So... he was a great philosopher and a great writer.. but his philosophy was not flawless... (like every other philosopher.. ^^ )
If you want to read some brillant french thinker... read Pierre Bourdieu (sociologist), Jean Pierre Vernant, Levy-Strauss, Finkielkraut, Michel Foucault or Francois Jullien. But i don't think they are all translated in English... (Hannah Arendt is awesome too ! )
And ... to me... i Read Lord Jim by Conrad, and i'll read Le joueur d'échec by Zweig soon ^^
